PETALING JAYA: Dr Wong Shaw Voon (pic), a professor in mechanical engineering, has been appointed the new chairman of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros).
In welcoming him, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong expressed his confidence in Wong’s vast experience in road safety and his service towards Miros, the community and country.
“Wong is no stranger to the transportation and engineering industry of Malaysia as a former director-general and board member of Miros.
“He had also served in the ministry’s Special Investigation Committee that carried out the investigation and produced the report on the LRT collision in May last year,” Dr Wee said in a Facebook post.
He noted that Wong is a Fellow of the Asean Academy of Engineering & Technology and a consultant to the United Nations on its Road Safety Fund.
He also said Wong was first in his class at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Subsequently, he earned his PhD in mechanical engineering from Dublin City University in Ireland.
Dr Wee also expressed his sincere gratitude towards outgoing chairman Datuk Suret Singh, who has helmed Miros since February 2019 following his long service related to public transport and road safety.
