Alliance for a Safe Community was initiated and founded by Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, an ardent social activist well-known for his dedication to promoting safety and health in various organizations. Mr. Lee is a strong advocate for addressing current safety and health issues affecting our generation and society. He frequently appears in news media to share his wisdom, aiming to educate our community about safety awareness and disaster emergency preparedness.


2. Who funds Ikatan?

Ikatan raises its funds through membership and donation drives, training and consultancy activities, and accepts contributions from private individuals, charitable foundations, and government funds.


3. What is the belief behind Ikatan?

The core belief of Ikatan is to build a sustainable safety culture that creates a "Safe Community." This can be achieved when relevant organizations, stakeholders, and individuals collaborate to enhance the safety and health of people from all walks of life in the community.


4. How Does Alliance for a Safe Community (Ikatan) work?

Ikatan is guided by its mission:

  • To promote and establish safety as a way of life.
  • To safeguard against the loss of life and property.
  • To empower people and the nation to benefit from loss and injury prevention initiatives, utilizing available resources for community and national development.
Ikatan serves as a platform to unite highly motivated individuals, experts, and professionals passionate about various fields related to health, safety, crime, and accident prevention, including land, water, and air transportation, as well as homes and recreation. It also facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience, and expertise to instill and promote a culture of health and safety in both occupational and non-occupational sectors. To promote safety and health values in the community, Ikatan is prepared to assist in resolving safety and health issues.


5. "Alliance" for a Safe Community - Who is Ikatan alliance with? How do I know my involvement with Ikatan is not an alliance with a political candidate or party?

Ikatan is a non-governmental organization (NGO) and operates as a not-for-profit entity. It is solely dedicated to community safety and health and does not have affiliations with any political party or candidate.


6. How do I know whether Ikatan is registered as an NGO, and is my contribution eligible for tax exemption?

We are a registered NGO with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) bearing registration number PPM-017-14-04012019. Currently, we are not a tax-exempt organization.


7. How can I, as an individual or my organization, contribute or partner with Ikatan for a good cause?

Individuals can contribute by sharing their knowledge, expertise, and professional networks to support Ikatan's objectives for creating a safe community. Similarly, organizations interested in promoting safety and health in their respective communities can partner with Ikatan.


8. If we decide to make a financial contribution to Ikatan, how can we ensure that our donation is spent on the non-profit's mission and not on overhead?

You can specify your donation's intended use when making a contribution. However, an unrestricted donation is often the most useful as it allows Ikatan to allocate the funds to areas of greatest need, maximizing its positive impact. Occasionally, applying donations to overhead expenses, such as office infrastructure or equipment, can enhance program delivery efficiency.


9. Does Ikatan have any merchandise?

Currently, we do not have merchandise, but we have plans to introduce it in the future.
